A PEAK INTO THE HERITAGE OF LUCKNOW

Lucknow truely is" the city of nawabs " the first thaught that came into the mind after the "HERITAGE WALK" starting from lal pul build by lord Harding in early 1914, then while heading towads tile wali masjid guide started off with his royal description of Lucknow, city beside a river that used to be called "ghumti" now loudly known as "gomti". The kothi and hawelies, masjids, imambara, sahai bauli, rumi darwaza etc build by nawabs. It was noteworthy how the Badaimambara was build keeping in mind the security point of view. The royal life style of nawabs and sultans having big families many wifes and children and for recreation they had natuch girls, delicious awadhi cuisines, loud costumes, heavy jewelries, palaces having "nakkashi", coins, emblem of fish and other things formed from amalgamation of hindu and muslim rituals. Then from the Badaimambara we proceeded towards the chowk churaha which is famous for "Raja thandai" a shop where nawabs used to come for drinking "shahi thandai", a traditional drinkable of Banaras. after that we headed towards Santoshi mandir, jain temple, gol darwaza, houses of natch girls made few meters away from Raja thandai shop after that there was an old antique Police Station build in 1905 and just few steps ahead is King's Unani Hospital where the medicines are herbal and patients are to spend only one rupee to get treated adjecent to it was kapatan ka kuan build in 1834 which has been taken over by encroacher and now there is a shop just above the "well". There were many workers of jardozi, chiken kari and the rhythmic sound of workers hammering silver into thin sheets. The lane was filled with aroma of fragrance of "itra" , delicious sweets under preparation in the air. The market also had a large number of "gota" and "kinari" shops. We also have "phulon wali gali" lined up with diffrent types of flowers around this place, we have "katari tola" where the architecture of houses is very beautiful. There is also a"farangi mahal" and a haveli having 7 entrances visited by Gandhiji where the planing of khilafat movement was done . Overall the tour was fantastic and spender having an imagnation of how nawabs must have been living.
